It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

When aliens and imaginary worlds come into play, it falls on editors to create a pace and tempo that helps us believe they’re real. Sometimes this means holding on an actor’s reaction to visual effects that they haven’t even seen yet; other times it can mean showing us just enough of the invented world to make us yearn for more.

Created and written by David E. Kelley, Big Little Lies has become one of the most highly-acclaimed shows on television, taking home major awards at last year's Golden Globes and Primetime Emmys, including "Best Miniseries" and "Outstanding Limited Series" respectively. So, what's all the hubbub about?

In this post I take a look at the All-Access pass, what's great about it, what you need to know to get the most out of it and what are some of the best courses that Masterclass.com has to offer

For those filmmakers and other creatives who are on the outside and looking to get in, talent agents have traditionally been thought of as the gatekeepers to the kingdom, the ones who, with a word, can deliver a career. Of course, it's not that simple, and while they're becoming increasingly more influential in the film business, many people still don't have a great idea of what an agent's role actually is.

When you first start editing, it’s easy to advance from a beginner to an intermediate editor with enough practice and a bit of patience. Becoming an advanced editor, though, is a tougher climb, and it’s all about saving time. Once you’ve got the lay of the land in your NLE of choice, the next step is memorizing shortcuts. Editing accessories that allow you to map keyboard shortcuts — so you can click three buttons to make a quick cut — are a big help in this process. Here are our curre...
