To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

History of Film: Psycho

When one thinks of Alfred Hitchcock, what’s the first film that comes to mind? Certainly, the corpulent master crafted many iconic images, and just as many films. It’s hard to nail down maybe one specific image that defines Hitchcock, but if I had to pick one film that perfectly encapsulates his mission statement as artist, it’d be Psycho. Impeccably crafted in every way, it is the ultimate showcase for how the master showed us everything: by showing us nothing at all.

There has been a lot of buzz in the last few weeks about a very short video where new-york based designer Stefan Sagmeister says that people who are not novelists or filmmakers and claim that they are storytellers are full of shit.

If you have been around since the early days of 3ds Max, the name "Max3D" might ring a bell. Back in 1996, the year 3ds Max was released, Torbjorn "Tobbe" Olsson started a website dedicated to 3ds Max News which also served as a catalog of available plug-ins years before the current torch-bearer MaxPlugins.de came along. Now Tobbe is back with a dedicated YouTube Channel with the same name, and a Facebook Group / Google+ Circle to go with it. And the first review published by the new Ch...

We had an interesting string about developing one’s editorial style this week in The Power Edit on FB – which, if you’re interested in improving your editorial and communication craft, is a group you should join. One group member – whose permission was obtained for referencing him here – wrote that he just wrapped editing on a […]

2010 Apple patent: Final Cut Pro X concepts

August 30, 2014, 12:24 PM

http://alex4d.com/notes/item/2010-patent-imovie-al...

A patent filed by Apple in 2010 shows a possible future direction for iMovie that includes ideas that have appeared in Final Cut Pro X. More evidence of the large amount of research and development Apple put into editing user interfaces. I've written before about Apple's patent concerning wider story structure as well as timeline structure. This week saw Apple being awarded a patent that seems to have arisen out of making editing easier for a wider range of people. A step on the way to ge...
