Article Humour Video Blog Audio Industry News Site News Tutorial Press Release Events

To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In Response to In Defense Of Difficult Clients

This morning I read a blog post by Alexander Fox titled In Defense of “Difficult Clients” that was linked to by Art of the Guillotine on Twitter. Like any creative in today’s market I too have had “difficult clients” so I figured I would give it a quick read, hear some familiar stories and smile knowing that I’m not alone. After reading the article I’m frankly shocked that other creatives would put so much stock in their clients to discount their own worth as both creatives and pro...

End Game

Last year I posted about Digital Domain's $17M investment to co-produce Ender's Game where former CEO John Textor handicapped the numbers: If the film does $60 million at the domestic box office, dare I say a number that low, that is beyond abject failure for a film anticipated like this, we would have total proceeds,…

In ad-speak, client-shaming hurts your brand. Venting to a friend is one thing; writing something snarky on the internet is something else.

Analogue/Digital BNE 2013 (2013)

Editor’s Note: This article has been marked “Not Safe For Work” due to elements that contain nudity. The fluid curvature of skin, so elusive in the briefest of glances, opens this exquisite title sequence for the 2013 Analogue/Digital conference in Brisbane. Juxtaposing the hard and the soft, natural and constructed elements are placed among the angles of the human body, supple, stretching in some unspoken desire. The typography floats just beside these surfaces, trembling in its proxim...

From Editing to Directing/Producing

Anyone who follows me on twitter is probably aware that I recently joined a group of post production professionals that produce a podcast called Going Postal Show. First and foremost, I am currently an editor that works in broadcast television, but we all need to have a little fun side project, right? So the criteria to be a part of the podcast: have a passion about production and post production, love movies, be comfortable around tech talk and of course, be a geek. I guess I qualified.A po...
