It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

"Is it good? I’m not sure, but I know I worked my ass off," Trent Reznor, the Nine Inch Nails frontman/Oscar-winning film composer told me of his latest score — the one that he and Atticus Ross put together for David Fincher's smash-hit Gone Girl — when we sat down for an hour-long conversation a few weeks ago in Beverly Hills.

Most video editors can get by with the audio editing tools that are built into their NLE systems, but if you want that extra audio finesse, you’ll need some dedicated audio applications and plug-ins. 2014 is closing out nicely with new offerings from Sony Creative Software and iZotope.

Turbo is a wave transformer that lets you create unique, complex new sounds out of most basic waveforms such as saw, triangle and square waveforms. Turbo takes the input signal and directly bends its shape using one of its eight sine-based transfer functions, enriching the spectral content with new harmonics.

While it has been out for a while now, I finally got my hands on a review copy of Dehumaniser from Krotos LTD. Dehumaniser has gotten a good bit of buzz in the professional sound design community and rightly so.

How to fix the “POP” during recording or in post. Before we can fix the POP, we need to understand where it came from. To do that, let’s quickly look at microphone theory. To oversimplify, sound waves hit a microphone and cause slight physical movement of the diaphragm, which is translated to electricity via an […]

The LEAF, short for Large European Acoustic Facility, will never host the world's biggest music show and for good reason. This large facility, built in the name of science, produces only noise. And not just noise, mind you, but noise that could potentially blow your head off from your ears if you happened to still be inside the chamber when it blasts spectral noise, believed to be the loudest in the world. Luckily, no one has been reported to have suffered that fate yet.
