To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Normally I don’t write a blog post about every little updated to every little piece of post-production software installed on every little post-production machine. If I did then this blog would be nothing but a series of posts about updates. But every now and then there’s an update that is important enough to my workflow [...]Read More...

Yes, I admit it, the title is kind of clickbait. But it is true, I did work a lot on the rough cut of our latest 76-minute music documentary while sitting in a bus for hours, travelling across Iran to our next filming location.

Aging an actor with Adobe Sensei and Mocha Pro 202

In the age of 4K and beyond, it’s very hard to convincingly make an actor look old using practical prosthetics and make-up. When practical effects are used, they’re often erased and replaced in post because the defects show up on the 4K screen. The solution has been to turn to VFX wizardry made popular by [...]Read More...

Is Apple Silicon Your Fork in the Road?

December 15, 2020, 02:29 PM

https://www.provideocoalition.com/is-apple-silicon...

As if 2020 hasn’t been disruptive enough, Apple capped off the year with the launch of Big Sur (macOS 11) and the release of its first Apple silicon-powered M1 Macs. It’s hard for an editor to keep up with these changes, let alone post facilities operating multiple workstations. Mac users have now reached that fork [...]Read More...

2020 has been an insane year.  While many products in our industry have remained more or less the same, some have really stepped out into the spotlight.  With the need to have less and less people involved in productions, and have more physical distancing, products like Wirecast have really come to the forefront.  It’s ability [...]Read More...

Our discussion today is with Ben Insler. Ben was the assistant editor on David Fincher’s feature film, Mank, which was edited in Adobe Premiere. David Fincher’s production company has its own post house – Number 13, which I have had the privilege of visiting in the past – and it is really on the cutting [...]Read More...

Final Cut Pro and Motion on the new 13″ M1 MacBo

This week on MacBreak Studio, I was able to “borrow” the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Apple Silicon chip and so I did a few comparisons against my 2019 16″ MacBook Pro using both Final Cut Pro and Motion (by the way, it’s going to take me awhile to stopping adding the “X” [...]Read More...
