To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Recently, I proposed the topic of how to do the audio setup for a live TV show to our friends at NewTek. It really doesn’t matter whether you are recording Live-to-drive (previously called Live-to-tape), live to over the air or cable, or live on the Internet. In part 1, I cover the acoustic environment, microphones, and IFBs. In part 2, I cover On Air lights, audio mixers, the power of automatic muting, audio monitors, and snake cables. In part 3, I cover several ways of taking live tel...

How email became the most reviled communication Fo

It wasn't until I heard that a colleague had nuked his personal email account—on purpose, for good—that it hit me: Email is the most reviled personal technology ever. Mat Honan, the San Francisco bureau chief at BuzzFeed, was so fed up with email that he did the 21st-century equivalent of unlisting his phone number and ripping the cord out of the wall. (He couldn't do the same at work, but I suspect he wanted to.)

A great movie is an emotional journey. The movie makers at Pixar have become masters of taking us on emotional journeys over the years. Now we know who’s to blame for making us pull out the tissues whenever we sit down for a "fun" Pixar movie.

This Poland-based studio offers full-service post and a newly installed Atmos mix stage. By Mel Lambert Back in 2012, when the owners of Warsaw, Poland-based Dreamsound Studios were contemplating a new re-recording stage, they were invited to Dolby’s European headquarters in Wootton Bassett in England to evaluate the Atmos immersive sound system, which they hoped to install. “But we also decided to conduct our own studies into the correlation between Atmos panning and the localization ...

Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs Dinosaurs are everywhere thanks to the new Jurassic World release. And while the new one is shaping up to be on of the biggest summer blockbusters ever, we’re still reminiscing about the original and how it captured everyone’s imagination – young and old. To that end, we’ve decided to recreate the original logo and show you how we did it.
