It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

On Saturday morning, May 9, the Guild’s Membership Outreach Committee kicked off the first of a series of gatherings to discuss problematic post-production workplace issues. The series is designed by the committee to gather the collective voices and experiences of Local 700 members to approach these largely non-contractual situations professionally and to formulate solutions that can be shared with the membership.

If you watch Episode 16 of Season 6 of Modern Family (2009-present), which originally aired on ABC-TV Wednesday, February 25, you will see a laptop screen filling your TV (or maybe laptop) screen and a cursor moving over to the upper left corner to connect the computer to WiFi. Across the top horizontal bar of the screen, you will see the words “Sunday 2:04 PM” and “Claire’s MacBook.”

It’s been three years since the Barden Bellas a cappella’d their way to championship status in Universal’s 2012 surprise hit, Pitch Perfect. With a film that grossed more than $64M at the box office and had built a strong cult following, it only makes sense that co-producer Elizabeth Banks would go for a repeat performance, this time taking the wheel as director and returning, along with leading Bellas Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow, for the sequel, Pitch Perfect 2.

Have you ever had a mysterious problem in After Effects where frames are repeated, skipped, or even missing? Chances are they can be traced back to a problem with source footage’s frame rate, and mismatches between it and that of your composition. Even footage that displays the same number for frame rate may have a rounding error under the hood that causes problems when dragged into an After Effects comp.

Since the introduction of the Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio switcher for $995, everyone has been asking, “How can I build my own TV studio?” You can do it, but not for $995. The ATEM Television Studio is just one piece of the puzzle to building a working production system.
