To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Quelle étrange sensation de regarder un film qu’on a monté ! Que ce soit lors d’une projection, lors d’une diffusion ou bien des années plus tard, le hors champ persiste. Je parle du hors champ du travail. Celui qu’on est … Lire la suite →

I came across a few cool things at the Entertainment Technology Expo last week. While this entry isn’t a full rundown of all the Useful Tools for Editors that I discussed in my session at the event (that is coming later, I promise) these are a few things I came across while either at the event or browsing the web on the flight back.

Video Editor is Not a Synonym for Motion Graphics

November 13, 2013, 10:56 AM

http://www.screenlight.tv/blog/2013/10/30/video-ed...

If you’ve ever searched for a job as a video editor I bet you’ve come across a motion graphics artist position labeled as one on accident. The professions sit next to each other like books in a library. They are quite different despite starting with the same numbers in this fictitious Dewey Decimal System. Unfortunately, clients, co-workers and companies often don’t understand the difference and why you as the video editor can’t create a 3D deck of 52 separate playing cards that fly...

Invest in Yourself and Your Professional Developme

The week before last I was at the Southeast Creative Summit. The enthusiasm of the attendees, who came from all over North America, reminded me of the importance of taking the time to invest in yourself and your professional development. Even if you are extremely busy, selecting the right conference or training session can help you sharpen your skills, move your business forward, and forge new contacts that can pay off in a multitude of ways. Here are some of major things that I think are ...
