To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Create Lower-Third Graphics with Adobe Comp

May 21, 2015, 04:47 AM

http://blogs.adobe.com/edtechatadobe/2015/05/creat...

One of the toughest and most annoying parts of creating a video project is building a good looking lower-third graphic. When many people add names and titles in post, they often just use a standard font with nothing that looks like an actual lower-third graphic by a professional. This makes the video look amateur. I recently was working on a project where I shot some video on my iPad and used Premiere Clip to start the editing process before finishing in Premiere Pro CC. I was on a plane wi...

PluralEyes: Fast & Easy Connections for Video/Audi

With the popularity of HD-DSLRs, many shooters are recording sound separately because of the camera's limitations with audio. For the past year, I've been shooting my spots on the Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera. The video looks terrific but the audio is clunky. The camera has no audio level setting so audio is always a guess. (Blackmagic solved this issue and many more with the release of the Ursa.)

It has been MONTHS since I have last posted and I apologize for that. I started this tumblr blog to share my knowledge in a casual setting. How to cut tv promos and trailers? If so, can you

In a nutshell, they need to tease, have energy and tell a story in a short amount of time. The best way to get a sense is starting watching lots of trailers and then break them down into what went into them. What works for you? What doesn’t?   There is a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Teaser Trailer that breaks down how to cut a trailer. It’s clever and hilarious. Give that a watch.

How did you get into editing, professionally?

Editor lunch ala Steve Jobs

May 20, 2015, 12:11 PM

http://www.thepoweredit.com/editor-lunch-ala-steve...

I eat the same take-out lunch every weekday when I’m editing. Come lunch hour, I pick up the phone and order what everyone at Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill knows as The Usual: a half-sized Power Plate with chicken and a double serving of grilled vegetables. Oh, Power Plate. How I love thee. Some folks say, […]
