It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I apologize for the last of posts recently, as the last couple of weeks have been very hectic! I just wrapped up production on a couple of commercial/corporate spots, directed three music videos and ran my Digital Cinema Bootcamp this past weekend – amongst other things. I have some really great material that I’m going to be sharing with you guys over the next week or so, and wanted to kick things off today by highlighting a recent no-budget music video that I shot on the Lumix GH4…

Thanksgiving is just a few days away, but before we dig into the seasonal fowl, let’s digest this year’s other most buzz-worthy winged creature. Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu‘s one-of-a-kind film Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) hit theaters in October and thanks to a healthy expansions, it’s very much still in the conversation. Picking up speed on a weekly basis, i’s a tour de force in acting, direction, and cinematography, all seamed together with one very jazzy sound...

Silicon Valley news headlines are full of a wage-fixing and anti-poaching agreement that was used by big names such as Google, Apple, and a few more. According to Bloomberg news in “Evidence of Alleged Apple-Google No-Poaching Deal Triggers More Lawsuits,” all of these companies agreed to not “steal” employees from each other and there was even a no-call list to prevent solicitation.

In an ideal world I’d have a ninja-class boom operator with me on all of my documentary shoots, but short of that I usually place a wireless lavaliere on my subjects in order to capture the best dialogue possible while providing then with mobility along with the intimacy of a small crew.
