It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Three-dimensional look up tables – 3D LUTs – have become embedded in the post-production process now and don’t look like going away any time soon. LUTs emulating analog classic film stocks continue to enter the market and some established ones are in the process of being updated.

While the Gen4 and Gen5 versions of the G-RAID® are also hardware RAIDs, they are hardwired in RAID 0 (striping) for performance. The G-RAID® with removable drives ships in RAID 0 (striping), but can also be configured in RAID 1 (mirroring) for data protection or (on Mac only) in JBOD.

Back in September Blackmagic announced they had purchased eyeon Software, developers of the high-end VFX application Fusion 7. And now they have done the same thing they did after acquiring DaVinci Resolve; they have drastically slashed the price of the application. You can get Fusion 7 for free, or buy Fusion 7 Studio for $995.

We feature a lot of Michael Horton's videos from the LACPUG on here. So we think it is well worth a post helping them to fund their new projector. Everyone will benefit.

Some of the most confusing aspects of a job have nothing to do with hardware problems or software upgrades. Everyone using After Effects knows that Video Copilot produce great tutorials, but none of them tell you how to deal with a co-worker who has bad body odor, or what to do if a...

Audio for visual effects is extremely important. High quality and suitable sounds are essential when adding authenticity and impact to your effects. Therefore I tend to spend quite a lot of time searching the internet for license free audio that I can use. I then spend some more time layering and processing these sounds to create something unique that suits the visual effect I am trying to create.
