To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

With "Gone Girl" in theaters, your ears are being treated to yet another untraditional feat of film music composition from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It's their third collaboration with director David Fincher, and maybe their most intriguing. We talked to Reznor recently and hope to go even deeper on the work later in the season, but for now, let's consider the tradition his and Ross' contribution joins.

The Challenge of Editing Eleanor Rigby

It's not uncommon for an editor to create multiple versions of a film prior to the one that the general public gets to see in theaters. What is uncommon, though, is for each of those multiple versions to reach the big screen. That's the unique experience Kristina Boden enjoyed editing "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby," writer/director Ned Benson's story of a married couple (played by Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy) torn apart by tragedy.

Filmmakers have been going to AbelCine for 25 years for individual sales, support, service, and essential hand-holding. “What esoteric, exotic Peruvian mahagony wooden handgrip fits my custom-made magnesium camera bracket?” has been a recurrent question since the beginning of cinema time. AbelCine has always been there with answers and advice, from the “every camera a prototype analog days” to the latest “every camera a new workflow” days.

Why You Can’t Tell Johnny Depp From His Double

October 7, 2014, 09:42 AM

http://nymag.com/scienceofus/2014/10/why-you-cant-...

You have probably enjoyed many high-octane film scenes involving Johnny Depp and other action stars in which you were actually watching their stunt doubles without even noticing. Why couldn't you tell the difference? According to a new paper in Cell Biology (PDF) from researchers at the University of California - Berkeley and MIT, the answer's a bit more complicated than tricks involving camera angles — and it involves the same perceptual mechanisms that help prevent our world from slipping in...
