It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

If you are looking for an easy-to-use editing application that’s optimized for a Windows workstation, one option is the Vegas Pro family from Sony Creative Software. There are several configurations, including Vegas Pro 13 Edit, Vegas Pro 13 and Vegas Pro 13 Suite. The big differences among these is the selection of Sony and third party tools that come with the bundle.

Every now and again, we come across signs, logos, posters, etc, displaying questionable kerning. Some are frustrating, some are cringeworth and some are just downright funny. Here, we thought we'd share some of the worst examples we've seen. Let these be a lesson to you: kerning is very important! Here's how not to do it...

IBC is just around the corner, and with that comes what seems to be Adobe’s bi-yearly tradition of major updates to the video applications. 6 years ago I was working in manual labor and wasn’t happy. I loved Blender, but could only use it in the evenings. So I had the grand plan to start a tutorial site to help me get freelancing work.

To those considering the idea of Hollywood editing paychecks: they ain’t what they used to be. And paychecks are FAR from the only reason to edit… but to those of us who do it for a living, they’re a big deal. And they could end up being a big deal to you too. I always […]

At IBC 2014, Adobe is previewing the latest features coming to Creative Cloud pro video apps (blog). Features are a bit light since these are updates not new version releases, but steps forward nonetheless. Hopefully there are few kinks in any UI changes amid the high-DPI functionality upgrades.
