To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Emmys voters have long had a reputation of being a bit stodgy and old-fashioned, but that’s been changing with their increasing willingness to nominate shows on streaming services like Netflix. The DreamWorks Animation series Turbo FAST is the most-recent example, as the show — based on the 2013 CG-animated feature Turbo — has been nominated for two Daytime Emmys: Outstanding Animated Children’s Program and Sound Mixing.

Visual Effects, Before and After

Sciencegeek100 posted the following two image galleries taking a look at the visual effects used in films including The Avengers, RoboCop, Godzilla, Ender's Game, 300: Rise of an Empire, Man of Steel, The Wolverine and many more. The images feature the before shot and after, once visual effects replaced green and blue screen work and as much as I think visual effects are becoming a troubling crutch for today's filmmakers it doesn't change the wizardry that goes into making it all happen.

By Hasraf “HaZ” Dulull A few months ago I was VFX supervising on location for a rather large-scale commercial shot on the lovely Arri Alexa. Whenever I am doing on-set VFX supervising, one of the many things I do is take notes of the lens used, height of jib crane, F-stops, FOV etc. To do […]The post On-Set: VFX data gathering with Arri Alexa appeared first on postPerspective - Randi Altman's postPerspective.

I hate to be a killjoy, because I know one of the fun things about being an actor is getting to talk, talk, talk about your terrible experiences, but here are four reasons why you might want to cut back on all that whining.

Cutting Sports and Spielberg...

not very wise man once reflected that the strongest examples of film editing are the sequences where you don’t notice it. Day-long seminars such as “Sight, Sound & Story,” which took place last Saturday at the Florence Gould Hall in Manhattan, seek to pull back the curtain on the constantly evolving digital tools and techniques in need of demystification. Structured around a series of topical, industry-specific interests, the panels I attended approached the craft (and the difficulties of ...
