To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Have AJA/Blackmagic forgotten about ABC/Disney/ESP

May 3, 2014, 07:03 AM

Both AJA and Blackmagic showed cameras at NAB 2014, as I covered in other articles. All of these new cameras offer some type of SDI connector for studio use, and all can shoot the matching framerates for 720p (50p & 59.94p), but none of these cameras (even those specifically marketed for studio use) include 720p in any of their specs. Could have AJA and Blackmagic forgotten about 39+ US networks that use 720p? Or what…?

Movies Without Cuts: A Scientist’s Experiments

few days ago at Pacific Standard, Jennifer Ouellette profiled Sergei Gepshtein, a neuroscientist with a dream: to eliminate cutting from movies as much as possible. Gephstein studies human perception and the window of visibility. What Gephstein’s doing is tracking how human eyes respond to basic images: the visual example you can see in the profile concerns a series of lines forming the shape of a cube. The brain has to sort out whether it’s “seeing” the cube from above or below. “Eith...

Stock footage, like many opportunities, is what you make of it. Some clips might seem odd or unusable, but when you need a short clip to set a scene or to fill a gap, you'll be really grateful that a … more »

Making LUTs Available to All Projects

May 2, 2014, 12:17 PM

http://24p.com/wordpress/?p=178

In Media Composer 7.x, there is currently no way to differentiate a LUT import intended for all projects versus LUTs that are project specific. Importing a LUT is only available to the project in which it was imported. This is great when moving projects around from system to system, but if there was a LUT that you wanted to use all the time, regardless of project, the workaround is to manually copy the contents of the LUTs folder (found in the project folder) to...
