It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Nearly every creative step in any DAW requires the creation of something new. A track, a plug-in, a send routing, a preset change, etc. And Logic Pro of course has myriads of functions for creating new things. Projects, tracks, regions, templates, controller assignments, groups, zones, screensets – to name just a few! In this post I’m going to share one of my favourite workflow routines to force Logic Pro to create new channel strips the way I want them.

Remember the good old days, when you’d return home with a fresh Annette Hanshaw 78 to plunk down on the wind-up Victrola? You’d have the neighbors over for a listening party and a swell time was had by all around the punchbowl! Some among such excellent company danced the Lindy Hop, some sang along, and some did both — but everybody had fun. Alas, it wasn’t an experience that could be carried along for the morning subway commute or a Model T ride into the countryside.

Saro Sahihi over at SoundBits launched three new impact sound libraries yesterday. Just Impacts – Simple, Processed and Designed. He’s also done a behind the scenes video, showing some of the smashing fun he and his teammates had creating the sounds for the library, and I decided to ask him a few follow-up questions too. But first, the video:

Alleroed, Denmark – One of the highlights of this year’s Sundance Film Festival was The Girl from Nagasaki, a feature-length directorial debut by celebrated photographer Michel Comte. Around this time last year, Hans Zimmer was telling press he saw “so many good reasons” not to do the score for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Even after he eventually came around, he admitted that he was struggling to give the new Batman his own sound, distinct from the one he’d created for Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight movies. But now it looks like he’s come up with a solution for the Batman v Superman score.

We learned earlier this year that Hans Zimmer planned to follow up his work on Man of Steel and reunite with director Zack Snyder for the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice score. However, Zimmer admitted the unique challenge created “a bit of a problem in [his] head,” as he had to figure out how to approach the new Batman without repeating his work on the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy.
