It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

It is still fascinating to me how little people know about editing and how vital this part of the process is. Arguably, every part of the filmmaking process is essential, but editing is one of the stages when everything starts coming together and you can butcher or enhance everybody else’s job. Scary.

With both Anakin and Luke Skywalker, two of the most significant Jedi, growing up on Tatooine, the planet is arguably one of the most important planets in the STAR WARS universe. A new report has confirmed that the production team will recreate Anakin and Luke’s desert home planet in Morocco, however, Disney have not commented on anything thus far.

At NAB this year, Atomos is displaying a number of great new accessories at their booth, and I was able to learn a bit more about them courtesy of CEO Jeremy Young. First, he gave me a closer look at the Shogun, a new seven-inch recorder that allows users to capture ProRes 4K or CinemaDNG Raw over HDMI and 12G-SDI. It can also function as a monitor, with a 1920×1080 resolution, as well as waveform, vectorscope, and focus peaking. Additionally, you can record slow motion up to 120 fps in full HD...

At AJA’s booth, I got a chance to take a look at their new LUT-box, which, true to its name, allows you to load 3D LUTs and output to HDMI and SDI monitors. Approximately the same size as one of AJA’s mini-converters, the LUT-box supports multiple LUT formats and can be easily controlled via the free MiniConfig software. The LUT-box should be available starting next month, so watch my video above for more details.
