It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Based upon the three-hour play by Tracy Letts, August: Osage County brings together an ensemble of top actors to tell the story of strong-willed women brought by tragedy back to their Oklahoma home and the world of their drug-addicted, dysfunctional mother played by Meryl Streep. Editor Steve Mirrione admitted he is drawn to dialog-driven material. One of the challenges in converting the play into a film was retaining all the subtleties and great language, while paring down the story to a c...

Final Cut Pro X 10.1 is on its way to the App store. (You most likely will need Mavericks installed.) Now is the time to prepare for a smooth transition to 10.1, There are probably going to be some changes in the way FCPX 10.1 handles Events and Projects. If FCPX follows iMovie 2013, it will have a single Final Cut Pro Library for each Project and associated media instead of the two folder system it now uses. iMovie 2013 makes this new Library along side of your Event and Project folders. FCPX 1...

Right now you’re probably thinking to yourself, “That’s a pretty bold title for an article, Mr. Hardy. There couldn’t possibly be one single thing that’s SO important that it could make or break your career as a filmmaker.”

In over 30 years working in sound, Foley artist John Roesch has amassed an impressive list of credits, including major films like “Inception” and “The Matrix” and games like “Final Fantasy X” and “Dead Space.” With over 400 credits to his name, John was awarded the MPSE’s Career Achievement Award earlier this year. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with John on his Foley stage on the Warner Brothers Studios lot in Burbank, California to talk about Foley, how he got int...

In this digital media world, it’s imperative to not only have enough media array space to do your work, but also to store and protect that media for the long term. We’ve been using a very simple method going on four years now and in response to a question I actually got today, here’s […]

It’s been quite a while since I did a lot of work for varied clients. Way back then it was a constant pain to share our edits with clients and get their feedback. We were either sending DVDs or uploading files to places like YouTube, then exchanging emails. At the time I looked for better […]

Last week Adobe announced major updates to Adobe Creative Cloud, in particular, updates surrounding their video apps. While the majority of the updates centered around Adobe Premiere Pro, there was mention that Adobe After Effects would be receiving updates in the not too distant future as part of the December 2013 release. The updates for Adobe After Effects were not far behind at all and were released on Friday, December 13.
