It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

This story first appeared in the Dec. 13 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. The contrast couldn't have been more stark. On Nov. 22, Pixar Animation Studios laid off 67 employees, about 5 percent of its 1,200-person workforce, as the release of its next feature, The Good Dinosaur, was delayed 18 months to November 2015.

Short Version: If you haven’t already heard, not all cameras that shoot video (for example, DSLRs like the Canon 5D mkII) record their own audio in sync with the video. This causes problems whether you’re using camera audio, dual system audio, or have a multi-camera shoot. Therefore, it’s essential to test your camera (particularly if it’s not primarily a “real” video camera) and to compensate for this potential issue. If this is news to you (or if you’ve been ignoring it), rea...

”The Cloud” is all around us. As iCTVBA (International Cloud TV Broadcasters Alliance) Global Vice Chairman, our motto (“I see TV Beautifully Anywhere”) aimed not just at the future – but today. Internet, everywhere; data, all around you; television, at your fingertips, when and where you want it, at your beckon call; this is a dream from the middle of the last century that is just being realized today, thanks to advances in technology that, only now, can make it possible.

My first exposure to an integrated CGI and photography workflow came when photographer Chris Clor came to speak to my ASMP chapter, to show his work and share his methodology. I was blown away! Chris’ presentation opened my eyes to the potential of this type of production, as he drew back the curtain and showed us all of his layers in Photoshop. It was magic. I had seen the future, and bought a copy of Cinema 4D the next day.

It's no secret that hard drives -- with or without RAID -- have long been the weakest link of an enthusiast PC but until somewhat recently flash-based alternatives weren't affordable enough for the masses. In 2009, SSDs including OCZ's original Vertex were fetching $3.00 per gigabyte or about $350 for a 120GB model, quite a bit more than a 2TB hard drive at the time, which were going for as little as $0.06 per gigabyte.
