It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

TUAW reviews its share of Bluetooth speakers big and small, and today's review comes courtesy of accessory megacorp Logitech. That company has been doing some amazing things for iPhone and iPad users, and it has recently introduced the X100 Mobile Wireless Speaker (US$49.99), a tiny short cylinder of sound that comes in a rainbow of fun color combos. Let's take a look:

When digital recording first came on the scene, many engineers had a difficult time making the switch from analog because the philosophy on how to record the cleanest sound had changed. The meters were different, for one thing, so setting the correct recording level was sometimes a question. Later when digital recording became more sophisticated and refined, the philosophy on how to get the the best sound changed yet again. Here's an excerpt from my PreSonus StudioLive Mixer Handbook that busts ...

A big part of mixing audio is panning, which is like steering your audio between left and right (or multi-channel for surround). Sometimes we use panning to isolate stereo sources to mono outputs, which can be the case when making splits. But what would happen if what you thought was a panner was really a […]

Have you ever tried to get realistic sounds from a digital reverb, and been disappointed at how granular or “digital” they can sound? Well, I want to introduce you to the reverb that changed all that for me! It’s called Altiverb, from a European company called Audio Ease. It’s not just any reverb, it’s a […]

I’d long wanted a compact audio device in my bedroom. I don’t care as much about having perfect stereo separation when I’m listening to music in bed, nor does it matter if the sound is as good as it is on my office or living room systems. With this in mind, I’ve tried out a couple of devices, and found the Cambridge Audio Minx Air 200, which offers great sound and easy-to-use functionality.
