To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Creating the 3D in Gravity

Gravity, the highly-acclaimed, intensely emotional space thriller, has been hailed as some of the - if not the VERY - best 3D footage ever seen on the big screen. This has led to some surprise when learning that Gravity was NOT shot in 3d. However, it wasn't entirely converted in post either. It featured an innovative and unique workflow that incorporated 3D conversion during production as well as a complex integration with 3D VFX. In a conversation with Prime Focus World, we find out how they d...

Story Stuff Is Story Stuff : Art of the Edit

I like writing. I always have, and I've always been okay at it. It makes a lot of sense to me when editors also write – blogs, scripts, whatever – because the tasks are so similar. It mostly comes down to constructing a story of some kind, and the same pitfalls seem to apply more and more as I keep editing and writing stuff.

I’m fortunate that I get the opportunity to speak in front of many groups and recently that’s been more high school and college students.   No matter what the discussion is about, we always spent a lot of time talking jobs and networking.  Because we’re all so digitally connected it should be easier to network, […]

Premiere Pro CC: Building easy slideshows

http://blogs.adobe.com/edtechatadobe/2013/10/premi...

I can’t wait until the day when people are no longer scared of the Adobe Premiere Pro and it’s interface. The truth is that Premiere is just like all of our other applications. They require users to learn a small amount about the application, and then they are totally enthusiastic about what they can create. “If you can imagine it, you can create it.” One thing that I suggest is that people ease themselves into Premiere Pro by first learning how to make a slideshow video using some J...
