It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Color correction using graphical color wheels was introduced to the editing world in the Avid Symphony over a decade ago and adopted by nearly every NLE after that. Final Cut Pro “legacy” had a two nice color correctors using the color wheel model, so adopters of Final Cut Pro X were disappointed to see the […]

Not too long ago, I posted about my post process for Magic Lantern RAW video, which relies heavily on Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve. This is in contrast to some Ginger HDR processes that allow you to stay completely in the Adobe realm, no proxies needed. Many would still like to employ Resolve in their color correction, however, since it’s a very powerful industry standard tool. One significant problem with the Magic Lantern/Resolve proposition was a type of ‘pink fringing’ artifac...

IBC 2013: G-Technology show how to get almost 1000 MB/s write speeds with striped Thunderbolt drives from Dan Chung on Vimeo. Ever wanted to get super fast drive read and write speeds in the field? editing RAW or 4K material on location? There are many products out there that claim to help you edit faster. For us, nothing helps more than a dedicated keyboard. We have had an Editors Keys FCPX keyboard on review for the last three months.

While J.J. Abrams has claimed a number of times that he wants to use more practical effects to make the new generation of Star Wars films feel more “real,” the usage of computer generated imagery is only growing. More and more live-action movies are creating entire scenes in post-production.

It wasn't the effects and it wasn't the cast that made 1933's King Kong the enduring classic that it is (though Fay Wray got a clear shot at immortality). It was the story. The story of a big lug with a soft spot a mile wide. Of a king who loses his kingdom and his life because he falls for a pretty little thing - falls long before he tumbles ...
