It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Nowadays, we equate DaVinci with the powerful color correction software Resolve. It can be easy to forget DaVinci's hardware-based origins, just as it can be easy to forget Media Composer's origins as the dedicated machine editors used to call "The Avid." Even in their software forms, these systems retain...

We just wanted to elaborate a bit on the options you have choosing your movie to edit down for the 90to5 Editing Challenge: In addition to the PD, there is a relatively new license called CC – creative commons. Quite a few filmmakers nowadays publish their works under this license which does allow use of the material. One of those projects we want to mention is “The Cosmonaut”, an independant feature project whose makers share every single bit of footage.

Colorist Juan Salvo's new reel really grabbed my attention. In fact, it's such a great marketing video that I thought I'd see if he would share his vision for the project and how he came up with such a novel approach.

SSD drives confer numerous benefits for MacBooks and PC laptops, including quicker boot-up time, fewer moving parts and potentially longer life spans compared with HDDs. However, some SSDs can struggle with endurance as a result of their structures' flash-based components, which can degrade after numerous write operations. In addition to procuring their drives from a reputable vendor, professionals and businesses may also be able to improve SSD endurance by adding more RAM to their computers.

A container, like a glass containing liquid. That glass would be the metadata and the liquid in that glass would be the essence. I want to replace low quality liquid with high quality uncompressed master resolution liquid.

What editors are thinking now that Avid is no longer making DS. By Barry Goch LOS ANGELES When the news came of DS's demise I was in shock. It's as if a dear friend who's been sick for a while finally passes. I knew it was inevitable, but that doesn't take away the pain.
