It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe answers a viewer's question where they have accidentally deleted footage from their sequence that they need, and they don't have the master clips to go back and recapture/re-import. Is all lost? Not after watching this tutorial. Kevin shows you how easy it is to not only get your Master clips back, but get your footage back into your timeline in no time flat.

It’s time for a new Vectorscope graticule. The graticule, (sometimes called a reticle), is the overlay that presents targets, reference lines, crosshairs, and other guides to help when interpreting the trace or graph of a Vectorscope’s analysis. Older hardware-based Vectorscopes had the graticule silkscreened on a plastic overlay, so it was fixed and unchanging.

Of all the questions I get each day, this is the most popular: “When will Final Cut Pro X be ready for professional use?” Sigh… Right now! Final Cut Pro X is ready for professional use today.

One question that I've seen crop up repeatedly is, where are all the PCs and devices with Thunderbolt ports? Even with Apple's strong promotional support of the technology, there have been fewer devices than people anticipated, and they have taken longer to materialize than many of us would have liked.

I agree with this sentiment. Lightworks is primarily a video editing suite: designed by editors for editors, but not an audio editor. Of course, video does usually come with an audio track or two and any video editor will need to be able to do basic audio effects like EQ and crossfade and Lightworks has both.

The video industry has been moving towards complete file-based workflows, but that doesn't replace all of the functions that traditional videotape recorders served. To bridge the gap, companies such as AJA, Blackmagic Design, Convergent Design, Sound Devices and others had developed solid state recorders for field and studio operation. I recently tested Blackmagic Design's HyperDeck...
