To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

As many of you know, Magic Feather Inc. has been swimming in the FCPX pool for about 9 months. In that time we've grown to love FCPX. It's changed the way we edit, how we look at editing in general, and had some pretty interesting effects on our creative. How on Earth did we get here? First, let's look at some history.

Editing with the New iMacs

Last November, the day they went on sale, I ordered a 27″ iMac to replace my main editing system. (Click here to read about the system I ordered.) It arrived the end of December and, as these things tend to work out, as soon as I unpacked it, I needed to give it to our talented production assistant to do some web database work for the last two weeks.

FxFactory Pro plugins for FCPX

I was recently invited by Noise Industries to review their FX Factory Pro suite of visual effects for Final Cut Pro X. It’s an easy yes for me, since I purchased the $399 library last year and have used them in some way on most of my projects since.

LaCie Blade Runner by Philippe Starck Review

The LaCie Blade Runner is a 4TB external hard drive that's unlike any other on the market. While the tech specs feature big capacity and USB 3.0 connectivity, the real story is the drive's design and designer.

Offline to online with 4K

January 12, 2013, 11:34 AM

http://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/2013/01/12/offli...

The 4K buzz  seems to be steam-rolling the industry just like stereo3D before it. It's too early to tell whether it will be an immediate issue for editors or not, since 4K delivery requirements are few and far between. Nevertheless, camera and TV-set manufacturers  are building important parts of the pipeline. RED Digital Cinema is...

Vimeo quietly embraces 48 kHz audio

Since I published the article 11 things I love about Vimeo Pro (Pro Video Coalition, November 2012), I have had at least two pending articles about Vimeo’s general service and their upcoming Pay-Per-Vew service, about which I wrote briefly in December. It has...

CS6: Filmstrip Animation and More

One of the many animations I enjoy creating are moving filmstrips. I’ve found many uses for this animation over the last few years across various projects. Learning how to create this in Final Cut Pro 7, I’ve been able to adapt the same concepts over to Premiere Pro.

Time Management Tips to Start the New Year

January 11, 2013, 03:43 PM

http://www.screenlight.tv/blog/2013/01/07/time-man...

When I finished college and started working full-time, I was struck by the amount of free time I suddenly had on my hands. My last semester of school, I didn't have a single day off from work or class (and often class days were much longer than work) until my last final exam was completed. To go from that kind of schedule to a measly 40 hours a week was a stark difference.

Adventures in Building a Post Facility

My first media job was as an intern doing equipment management for production and post. All I wanted to do at the time was edit and animate, but instead I learned about systems and workflows. Looking back, it was a great foundation, and the things I learned have always been useful. Several years later, I now find myself bouncing back and forth between editor and manager.
