It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I’ve just ordered a new MacBook Pro. It’s a Retina MBP, so has a 512GB SSD. Upgrading this is difficult and extremely expensive. So in preparation for the new machines arrival I started freeing up disc space on my current MacBook Pro.

It's been a great year, and I thought I’d be clever (what with all the uproar and all) and sum up 2012 with Instagram pictures. Met a lot of great people, saw a lot of movies, and made a lot...

There are 423 commands available in the Command Set editor in Final Cut Pro X. 279 have default keyboard shortcuts. I’ve designed a PDF listing all 423 commands with a short description of what they do and their default shortcuts if available.

Ever since it was announced fourteen months ago, Adobe made it clear that Creative Cloud was going to be a new way of purchasing their software, a way to use a complete collection of the most recent versions of their industry-leading tools for a set monthly membership cost.

Chip Dizárd of Web Video Chefs recently reviewed our video collaboration service. Highlights for Chip included our clean design, custom branding, mobile friendly video playback, different ways of sharing, and the ability to deliver source videos to clients. Chip found that ScreenLight was an excellent fit for his wedding video business, his corporate video business, and his church and ministry business.

This is slightly off topic and nearly a year old, but it's a fantastic side by side comparison video of camera originals next to the same shot with VFX added. We came across this video accidentally, but after watching it twice and pausing it many times, we thought that we would share.
