It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

A master of sounds epic and intimate, known for his work on Westworld and Game of Thrones, composer Ramin Djawadi long ago crafted distinctive sounds for each of these series, defining the broad strokes of their sonic palettes. After two seasons of the former series and seven of the latter, these early decisions remain important, though they don’t sum up the battle of the composer’s craft.

Though ‘Mentorship’ was last month’s theme, we saw the following post on Sigi Klar’s blog and asked for his permission to post it here, which he happily permitted. Last year I was lucky enough to be accepted into the Audio Mentoring Project (click here for details) and I undertook a very enriching mentorship that helped […]

Some of the most challenging, rewarding, and fun sounds to record are those within the vast spectrum of fluids. Wet, sticky, viscous, mushy; the tactful use of fluid sounds can reinforce the realism and impact of a scene, or just be the punchline of a joke. In order to effectively communicate an idea to […]

Although I have not yet received a review unit, I can already feel that RØDE’s recently announced US$79 RØDE SC6-L is likely to become a game-changer for compact 2-track field recording on iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad). Simultaneously, I also discovered that —two years after my plea for important improvements in the RØDE Reporter app for iOS— some of them were just added too, in addition to a firmware update for the RØDE i-XLR that I reviewed back then. Can you tell I am excit...

This article review is mostly about the Zoom SSH-6 (stereo) shotgun microphone (with mono mode), and partially about the Zoom H5 recorder. It’s also about how I have been using these two Zoom products together with the (previously reviewed) ModMic 5 head microphone and the RØDE VLR+ to create an extremely powerful yet compact in-field interview kit.

Earlier in 2018, Digital Extremes out of London, Ontario celebrated the 5th anniversary of its flagship game, Warframe. This past summer it also held its third sold-out convention for fans of the free-to-play shooter called TennoCon. For those not familiar with the Audio Mentoring Project, or AMP, it was started just a year ago as a means to pair up veterans in the audio industry with people with less experience to help provide mentoring services and a symbiotic relationship of mutual learning and respect. I recently talked with Ariel Gross, the […]
