It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Rafael De Cardenas, visionary designer, and Sahra Motalebi, sound artist, combined to bring an eerily unsettling, yet super aesthetic environment based on the design of the maze, entitled AMAZE. The space itself looks like a David Lynch movie combined with mid century modern design, and the sound is a wild, interactive vocal-only sound scape by […]

Apple has suggested we change from MP3 to AAC, but many people are afraid that AAC may not be playable on all current players. So I created a bonus test episode. Many people mistakenly believe that that letter A in AAC stands for Apple. That is incorrect. The AAC acronym stands for Advanced Audio Códec, without any mention of Apple in the name. Apple did not create it. Apple just likes it.

Have you been disappointed when your audio quality drops exponentially as you add more microphones with a talk show, interview or reality, due to a phenomenon called spill, bleed or “crosstalk”? You can’t afford the time to mulitrack and fix it in post? You’ll be happy to know that there are hardware devices to solve it in real time, either truly live or live-to-drive (previously known as “live on tape”) . In BeyondPodcasting episode 10, Curtis Judd and I discuss four models from ≈...

By Jennifer Walden Director Spike Lee’s latest film, BlacKkKlansman, has gotten rave reviews from both critics and audiences. The biographical dramedy is based on Ron Stallworth’s true story of infiltrating the Colorado Springs chapter of the Ku Klux Klan back in the 1970s. Stallworth (John David Washington) was a detective for the Colorado Springs police department who saw a recruitment advertisement for the KKK and decided to call the head of the local Klan chapter, Continue reading ...

Atomos came to IBC 2018 with the message that it was keeping promises made at NAB 2018: first, that the Ninja V 4K HDR monitor-recorder would ship in Q3. With late-September availability still in the cards, Atomos says it will make good on that one. The timing is good, since the company was recently touting […] The post Atomos Announces AtomX Expansion Modules for Ninja V appeared first on Studio Daily.

Far too many editors are afraid to touch audio tools like parametric EQ and compression. It’s unfortunate, since the fundamentals are easy to grasp and the payoff is immediate. This month we’re highlighting moviola.com’s free course on using a compressor to control the dynamics of a soundtrack. It can make the difference between a lackluster voiceover and one that punches through the mix. It can also keep an overenthusiastic performance from jarring your viewers.
