To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

I am a professional film editor, and I have lived in the trenches for fifteen years. I’ve cut episodic television, studio features, indies, theatrical trailers, EPK’s, documentaries, you name it. I’ve had a lot of different experiences…all of them the same working environments: Long hours, no days off, sitting in one position, sedentary, in a dark room. […]

If you are in the market for a new editing laptop there are certain specifications that you have to consider before you make your purchase decision. Some time ago, we’ve covered how an entry-level mid-2015 Macbook handles editing and rendering of 4K footage. Yet, if you are planning to utilise your notebook for more system-intensive tasks and more serious professional work such as colour grading, multi-cam editing, compositing or VFX then you definitely will need more computing power under the...

What is the offline/online editing distinction nee

When I first started learning about computer-based non-linear editing, I understood that early NLEs were designed to replace part of the process where the work print is being prepared. The work print was the edit that would eventually act as a list of instructions for a negative cutter to combine the camera source footage into the final edit. When computers were first introduced into post production, there was no chance that they would be powerful enough to work with original camera foota...

Fox Mahony has been making Final Cut Pro X plugins since December 2011. There are over 150 available online. That way, Google pays me and you don't have to! As well as accepting donations via PayPal at his template site, he has ...

Final Cut Pro X Organizing Tips

August 6, 2015, 11:47 PM

https://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/2015/08/07/fina...

Every nonlinear editing application is a database; however, Apple took this concept to a higher level when it launched Final Cut Pro X. One of its true strengths is making the organization of a mountain of media easier than ever. To get the best experience, an editor should approach the session holistically and not simply […]
