It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In After Effects CC 2014 (13.0), we added a Compositing Options property group in the Timeline panel for every effect, which includes a couple of very powerful compositing controls: By default, the Compositing Options property group includes an Effect Opacity property, which can be thought of as providing the same functionality as the Blend With Original control found in a few effects in previous versions of After Effects. You can also add any number of mask references to an effect to con...

Here’s an interesting service for editors who need to create a Digital Cinema Package for distribution. AutoDCP: Drop Apple ProRes or other video files into your Dropbox folder and automatically create DCPs! After you install the application, a special AutoDCP folder appears beneath the Apps folder within your Dropbox folder. This folder can be managed and shared just like any other Dropbox folder. And AutoDCP works anywhere Dropbox works including Mac, PC and Linux platforms. ...

Coyote Post, a full service post-production studio in Hollywood, has been busy since we checked in with them a year ago. In addition to winning a Cannes Lions Award for the “Wake Up & Smell the Bacon” campaign for Oscar Mayer, a collaboration with production house Dirty Robber, the studio also moved from Silver Lake in Los Angeles to a beautiful new space in East Hollywood. The talented team of freelancers at Coyote Post continues to push the limits of creativity, using Adobe Creative Cl...

Q Pootle 5 was the animated television series I worked on over 2012-13. This 'making of' video was released on one of the series DVDs, and gives a basic overview of the process of creating an animated series: from concept art to foley and compositing. For additional information on the editing side of things running through animatic, animation, and delivery, I wrote a series of blog posts while working on this series, which are linked to from a roundup post which includes examples of...
