It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The term “B-roll” comes from the world of film where editors used to use an “A” and a “B” roll of identical footage, before the digital age changed everything. B-roll shots are similar to cutaways in that they help break up the static interview shots, but B-roll plays a more major role in telling a...

I’ve gone so many times it’s more like a family reunion than a trade show anymore. Here’s my 2015 edition of “Tips from an NAB Veteran to make the best use of your […]

It’s day 29 of the #28daysofquicktips and that’s one day over. This big list of tips came from Editor, Trainer & Workflow Consultant Jesús Pérez-Miranda and it’s too good of a list not to publish. While Jesús seems to be very pro FCPX these days he’s an editor of many NLEs so he has provided tips for Avid Media Composer as well as FCPX. It’s a great way to round out the #28daysofquicktips on a Sunday. A few of his tweets are embedded as well. Coming all the way from Madrid, Spai...

I recently published an article about the breakthrough pro XAVC Long GOP códec/format from Sony, which is the third group of XAVC born in 2012. In the first article, I covered the status of third party software that support professional XAVC Long GOP. Since then, more compatibility reports are coming out of the woodwork. Ahead is a compatibility update, and even a video from a Canadian reader.

How about a quick batch of Avid Media Composer Quicktips instead of one big one to round out our #28daysofquicktips? Here’s a few all the way from Poland sent to us by Marcin Zwolski. There are four little keyboard shortcuts that you might find useful. Thanks Marcin.
