It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Our industry is evolving ever faster. Why shouldn't our tools? Maybe apps should have a best before date.

Whether you are seeking, already using or needing to expand your online cloud storage, price is an important factor. I am talking about services like DropBox and Google Drive, which (as of publication time of this article) each charge ≈US$100 per year for 1TB (terabytes) of space. Ahead I am going to share a link to a similar service that charges 30% less, i.e. under US$70 — and also gives you an unexpected bonus. Like the other two services, this one includes synchronization with your devic...

By Karen Maierhofer Several years ago I was lucky enough to see Van Gogh’s The Starry Night oil on canvas at the museum and was awestruck by how rich and vibrant it really was, having had fallen in love with the painting years before after seeing reproductions/reprints, which paled in comparison to the original’s striking colors and beauty. The proliferation of creative marketplaces has changed everything. Whether we’re talking about the way in which audiences consume content or when and how they expect that content to be available, this change is the reason why terms like “Netflix for sports” and “Netflix for apparel” have become more popular. Understandably, this desire to easily access and utilize a variety of assets has also permeated the creative professional space, and it’s why a company that has already been dubb...

I was exceptionally lucky to have stumbled/lied my way into a dream job designing sound for video games twenty years ago, and am even more fortunate to have somehow made a career out of it. Sometimes people ask me how I’ve managed to stay afloat in this tumultuous industry having braved numerous crunches, layoffs, studio […]
