To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

[Frame of Reference] with Editor Ben Bacharach-Whi

Ben Bacharach-White grew up in a very artistic household. My dad is a photographer and my mom was an art history major at Johns Hopkins. It’s not just them though, there are artists all throughout my family, so I was screwed. As much as my Jewish mother wanted me to be a doctor or lawyer, […]

Gwen Stefani is an opening-credit game-changer — at least, for Stephen Colbert. The No Doubt frontwoman unfortunately mangled the name of the Comedy Central program at Monday night's Emmy Awards.

Transmedia Storytelling – Weaving the Universe

August 26, 2014, 09:53 AM

http://masteringfilm.com/transmedia-storytelling--...

Weaving the Universe Weaving the universe relates to the fact that any successful transmedia intellectual property is like a tapestry – many threads that are well-woven to create a beautiful pattern. This points to the concept that really successful intellectual properties tell many stories that weave into a larger picture or larger understanding of the...

Eyeballing your value

Do eyeballs matter? Short answer: yes. It would suck to edit without possessing eyeballs. So if I was actually talking about the number of eyeballs watching your project, would that matter? Well, that depends. As of this writing, I’m editing on American Ninja Warrior, a wildly popular obstacle course competition show that airs in the […]

Ebert's Review of The Brown Bunny and Editing

In May of 2003 I walked out of the press screening of Vincent Gallo's "The Brown Bunny" at the Cannes Film Festival and was asked by a camera crew what I thought of the film. I said I thought it was the worst film in the history of the festival. That was hyperbole -- I hadn't seen every film in the history of the festival -- but I was still vibrating from one of the most disastrous screenings I had ever attended.

'The Zero Theorem': Inside the Post Process

August 22, 2014, 09:37 AM

http://www.creativeplanetnetwork.com/news/edit/zer...

Few filmmakers are as gifted as Terry Gilliam when it comes to setting a story inside a dystopian world. The Monty Python alum who brought us Brazil and 12 Monkeys is back this month with The Zero Theorem. It’s the story of Qohen Leth, played by Christoph Waltz, an eccentric computer programmer who has been tasked by his corporate employer to solve the Zero Theorem. This is a calculation that, if solved, might prove that the meaning of life is nothingness.
