To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

How Boyhood was Cut

You can't work with the same group of people for 12 years and not come to feel a certain kinship towards them. And indeed that's how the creative team behind Richard Linklater's decade-in-the-making film "Boyhood" have framed their experience, with the movie's young star Ellar Coltrane—who ages from age 6 to 18 during the course of the 166-minute coming-of-age epic—recently telling The New York Times that he considers Linklater and his co-stars (including Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette) t...

For the last 5 years, Adam Epstein has been editing for the SNL film unit – a team that has just a couple of days to make something that looks as polished and as real as the material they are often parodying. Adam describes himself as an editor who’s “been working professionally on promos, commercials, TV [...]

Conflicts At Work: They’re Not About Personality

Why do people come into conflict with each other at work? A clash of personalities is one reason that might come readily to mind. But “most work conflicts aren’t due to personality,” argues organizational psychologist Ben Dattner in a post on the website of the Harvard Business Review. Rather, there are usually situational dynamics at work that turn people into adversaries.

Avid, Adobe and Apple NLEs: June 2013-June 2014 fe

If you are faithful user of a single video editing application, it is a good idea to keep up with improvements that other NLEs have made. Then you know when it is worth giving them another try. In an ideal world features on one system might appear on others, but influence of each company on the other is unlike normal competitive markets. I'll use Final Cut Pro X terms in some cases (for example Premiere 'sequences' are Final Cut 'projects'). Avid Media Composer v7.0 - June 2013 Dy...
