It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Clickbait headline? We don't think so. This video neatly wraps up in a short, well put package why FCPX has become a superior non-linear editor compared to the traditional track based systems. Essential viewing, for your un-enlightened colleagues and friends.

A little while ago I posted a tutorial from Yone Santana who walks us through creating lighting for an interior scene with Solid Angle’s Arnold. A new tutorial from Yone is the antithesis with a look at lighting an exterior or outdoor scene. What’s the difference between rendering an indoor scene versus an outdoor scene? Rivets are handy things when you are rigging. Need to stick a button onto a character’s clothes? You need a rivet. For as useful as rivets are, they are a bespoke item within Maya. There is no “Create Rivet” menu item. You can build one using Maya’s tools though. A typical Rivet will use a The Post Understanding How to Rig With Rivets in Maya originally appeared and published on %%BLOGLINK%,by lesterbanks

Last year’s Best Editing field included “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” but this decade that blockbuster and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” are the only two nominees that were not also Best Picture nominees. The safer bet is to stick with those contenders. Especially until someone actually sees this year’s “Star Wars” film, ‘Rogue One.’ [Nov 29]

I still remember the last few countdowns, 3..2..1…to 2016. It had so much hope. It always does. After a bumpy 2015, I was looking forward to this year being filled with a lot more happy and a lot less trouble. It’s the same wish I think we all have every year, but I thought for sure this would be it.
