To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

NAB 2014 Post Mortem

A NAB blog post one month after the show? Better late than never but this is pretty bad. So what’s left to say? Well in my opinion this year’s show was in a word, underwhelming. Among the countless new wares on display there was really only a handful that would stop you in your tracks with the freshness of their concept or utility. If my saying this comes off as waning enthusiasm then it might be true and I've been thinking a lot about why that is.

Lead

The first time I was asked to be a leader was when I was a kid playing follow the leader. I would only lead for a few seconds and then call out someone else to lead. I hated the pressure of everyone looking to me for direction. I would break away from the crowd and go on my own to play something else.

Here's How Much Editing Work is Cutting for SNL

By now, pretty much everybody has seen and social media'd last week's epic Saturday Night Live sketch, The Beygency. It was a potent jab at the almost suffocating unanimity of Beyoncé-fandom, and what happens when one man--episode host Andrew Garfield--dares to be lukewarm on Queen Bey. As viewers watched the sleek sci-fi parody unfold, though, what they didn't see is just how much work goes into making a film of that caliber in less than a week and editing it for airing on national television.

Have you ever found yourself awake at 2am, watching infomercials, wondering where they find those folks who can go from a size ten to a size four in eight weeks, throw out their fat pants, get engaged, and live happily ever after? (If not, you gotta check out these five all-time worst fitness infomercials - especially the Hawaii Chair.)

How to make an industry trailer ☛ My last piece was about the trailers that show in cinemas, the ones the public gets to see. 3 Incredible Post-Production Time Savers

We’ve been using Dropbox for years to share files with collaborators. It’s awesome. But have you ever tried to share a video using Dropbox? It takes up a lot of room on your limited quota and takes ages to upload and sync, so getting deliverables to someone often entails uploading overnight while you catch some shuteye.
