To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Daily Inspiration - NOMOS Glashuette

Sometimes you have to whisper to get someone's attention. I was struck by the clean simplicity of this short film about the process of making a NOMOS Glashütte Swiss timepiece. There are no flashy camera moves, no stirring emotional score. Just understated, clean compositions that get out of the way and let the content shine through. And the audio capture & sound design is perfect. Watch below.

High-Resolution (or “Hi-Res”) will probably be on the lips of everyone who has anything to do with the studio industry in perpetuity.  No matter what the resolution is at any given time, there will always be a higher resolution being strived for.  While 4K has already become a reality for professionals who record in it […]

What does an editor bring to the party besides a digital editing machine?” That’s the question I will attempt to answer when I speak at the Marin County Media Center’s May Mixer this Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. Mmmmm. The Media Center is a non-profit located in San Rafael, CA that teaches young and [...]

The Problem With 4K

http://masteringfilm.com/the-problem-with-4k/

I think the significance of 4K shooting has been somewhat over-hyped by many indie filmmakers. Don’t get me wrong it’s very cool and a huge leap in the state of the art that we can capture video at such an incredible resolution—4× that of standard HD video. So it is a big deal . ....

7 Difficulties Friends and Family Have With Your F

The freelance lifestyle is a tough sell to your friends and family who are used to traditional types of jobs. You know, the kind of jobs where you wear a suit and tie, shave every morning, smile at the boss, and, well, earn a steady paycheck. To them, freelancing is the complete antithesis of that.

THE LITTLE ONES: 10 ALMOST NEW SHORTCUTS CC

http://strypesinpost.com/2013/11/the-little-ones-1...

The good things in life are hard to find, and with the rate of the CC updates, I often end up finding new shortcuts that I did not know were there. In two previous articles I mentioned that you can perform functions such as Option drag to duplicate titles, and you can assign a shortcut to shift source patches up or down a track. Here are some (mostly) new shortcuts that you may not know existed in Premiere Pro.

The Guideline of Six in Video Editing

April 28, 2014, 07:36 PM

http://blogs.nppa.org/editfoundry/2014/04/28/the-g...

1) Emotion 2) Story 3) Rhythm or pacing 4) Eye-trace (leading or directing the eye to what the viewer should look at) 5) Two-dimensional plane of Screen (or screen direction/180 rule) 6) Three-dimensional space of action (or continuity) This list could and should be applied to all visual storytelling. It’s a logic to the edit decisions you make every day.
