To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

It’s a hard time to be an artist in San Francisco, harder than it’s ever been. A recent survey of 600 working artists by the San Francisco Arts Commission found that 70 percent had been, or were being, displaced from their workplace, home, or both. The other 30 percent were, not surprisingly, losing sleep over the threat. Most of us here in the Bay Area have at least overheard the debate: who’s to blame for our skyrocketing housing costs and the growing disparity between working class...

Presets play an important role in shortening your work cycles and standardizing effects across projects and compositions. One of the advantages of using Adobe After Effects CC in your editing workflow is the availability of a large number of effects and animation presets on the web, which you can instantly download and integrate into the Effects & Presets panel in After Effects. If you happen to create and apply the same set of effects repeatedly for your projects, you must consider creating...

As the year continues, many of these posts will be philosophical in nature. Some will be in contradiction to previous postings. These are not intended as truths or assertions, they’re merely thoughts…ideas. Think of this as stream of consciousness over a wide span… I’ll be honest with you. For a long time, binaural has felt…to […]

Working with Immersive VR Video

http://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/working-with-...

Immersive video has been around in different forms for decades, however it hasn’t been able to break through on a large scale until recently. The most common VR video solution places the viewer inside of a sphere, and wraps a video stream around the sphere. This solution can be even more immersive when using stereoscopic video, allowing the viewer to see a unique stream of wrapped video for each eye. This is the sort of viewing experience provided by YouTube, Google Cardboard and Faceboo...

In film, soundtrack is just as important as visuals for telling the story – it helps to fully convey the intended emotion of a scene, establish continuity and add momentum.
