Article Humour Video Blog Audio Industry News Site News Tutorial Press Release Events

To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Decent cheap earphones: backups and stocking stuff

For event recording, it's good to have emergency sealed headphones, and being extremely portable and cheap, earphones fit the bill. Amazon is touting a selection of Stocking Stuffer Headphones Under $10, and when you land there, you're greeted by "Major Sound with a Minor Price." If you shop for $10 headphones, what can you expect? Certainly better than that list. Happily, some manufacturers have learned something in the last 30 years and make inexpensive products that don't sound half bad.

We talk not of his taste in music (although Black Sabbath and Meshuggah may indeed grace his home stereo), but his audio designs. The latest proof is the company’s new VT-24 Four-Channel Vacuum Tube Microphone Preamplifier.

With the release of DaVinci Resolve 11, Blackmagic Design has firmly moved into the ranks of nonlinear editing. In addition to a redesigned logo and splash screen, Resolve 11 sports more editorial tools than ever before. Now for the first time it is worthy for consideration as your NLE of choice. I have covered previous […]

Previously, I described how to produce a podcast live-to-drive using BossJock Studio with an automatic mixer (article links ahead). However, that isn’t practical when you’re interviewing a Spaniard singer/songwriter like Sole Giménez (ex-Presuntos Implicados) about her latest album via an international phone call, and also want to intertwine pieces of her own music based upon her sometimes unexpected responses. Ahead is the workflow and the final recording I used with CapicúaFM’s lat...

By Randi Altman Insomniac Games and Boris Salchow are frequent collaborators, so it was no surprise when the game developer tasked the composer to score the cinematic music for its next-gen shooter zombie game Sunset Overdrive, which published by Microsoft Studios exclusively for Xbox 1. The game itself is frenetic in its gameplay but doesn’t […]The post Composer Boris Salchow takes on zombies, humor for ‘Sunset Overdrive’ appeared first on postPerspective - Randi Altman's postPersp...

Tascam DR-70D Audio Recorder Just I was preparing to buy a different Tascam audio recorder, namely the DR-60D, a new device has been introduced called the Tascam DR-70D Audio Recorder. Although the electronic specs for both devices are pretty much the same in terms of audio quality, there is a difference in the physical design of the Tascam DR-70D Audio Recorder that make it a better fit for my use. First of all, the overall dimensions of the unit have […] The post Tascam DR-70D Audio Rec...

This is not specifically sound focused, but I thought this would be a relevant post considering so many within our community are freelancers. The Freelancers Union just recently came onto my radar.
