To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Color-correcting a single image can be a challenge. Correcting a video clip, even more so. Correcting a whole series of shots making them look good together--well, that takes some skill, plus some tech like the forthcoming release of Adobe SpeedGrade:

Technology vendors exhibiting at the NAB Show make a habit of pointing out that their latest product development is a result of conversations with customers. In no market segment is that more true than in the rapidly changing world of production switchers.

Visualizing hard drive speeds with the Blackmagic

I was having a discussion with some students recently about hard drive speeds and why it's important to have a fast drive for editing. All the discussion of data rates and different types of connections can only go so far as students new to editing need to see that speed in action.

FCPX - The VERY beginning.

This revelation was a real breakthru for me when I was learning about FCPX. It really all stems from the fact that between FCP7 and FCPX the good people at Apple decided to COMPLETELY change the meaning of the word “Project”. This short explanation REALLY helped me wrap my head around this.

Over the past decade Colour Grading has evolved from the very linear telecine process to the very flexible non-linear DI workflows of today. A skilled colourist will maintain continuity by matching shots, and also enhance the work of the cinematographer. But colourists also manipulate perception to stimulate emotions, focus attention and improve understanding of a project. Colour Grading can add fantastic production value. Books and videos are helpful resources but they can never replace first h...

When you start an FCPX project I always want to get organized early because it makes me think more clearly about how to find things. This is the way I set up my Keyword Collections and organize them into folders.
