It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

...An FCP7 user attempts to learn All The Software in an unrealistic timeframe. For fun. I've been a user of FCP7 for the last eight years, and it has been lovely, but sadly the time has come to move on. But move on to where? The world of post-production has finally settled down from the uncertain post-FCP-X-announcement-soap-opera plagued by rumours and hearsay, to a much more settled playing field, where each of the major NLEs - Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Compos...

When FCPX was launched two years ago, Larry Jordan stood in front of a packed out London Supermeet to demo it. It was pretty clear at the time that the launch version was missing some pretty significant features, and the general consensus was that it wasn't ready for professional use.

Lead editor Dan Dome and editors Robert Ashe, Jr., Chris Heller and David Grecu all put together OCCUPY Conan, a fan-sourced episode of the popular late night show. It's harder than it sounds, and that's why the Conan Editing Team is now up for an Emmy for Outstanding Multicam Editing for a Comedy Series.Permalink

Boris FX's Paul Ezzy breaks down the power of BCC Pin Art, an OpenGL-accelerated particle-based 3D generator in the latest episode of Boris TV. This two-fold tutorial shows you not only how to add a "pixel-disintegration" transition (think the pixels from an old-school Atari game) to your footage, but also how to take advantage of the advanced layering and masking techniques available in Avid FX. Plus, discover how you can quickly view your saved template over different footage with th...

Do you enjoy watching cameras watch actors do their thing? Well, you're in luck, as Trailer Addict have just posted three behind-the-scenes videos of Captain America: The Winter Soldier ahead of its release later this month. In it, you can see a camera watching Chris Evans run with a shield and stopping himself by running into a wall, Chris Evans (or his stunt double) do a load of cool kicks, and Scarlett Johansson looking meditatively down at the floor between takes. It's almost like you're act...
