Woah. SIGGRAPH 2021 has already started. This week is the On-Demand week, where there’s already a ton of sessions to check out. Then, from 9 August, the live and interactive sessions begin, including those from the conference’s Featured Speakers. As the Special Projects Chair for SIGGRAPH 2021, I’ve been part of the committee responsible for lining these amazing speakers up.

The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity is thrilled to partner with the City of Irvine to spotlight artist Chuck Jones and his iconic career through a Great Park Gallery exhibition and interactive programming featuring the Looney Tunes. The community will have opportunities to participate in art and creativity programs, educational lectures, and a film series all inspired by Jones’ work and legacy.

The CEE Animation Workshop, the year-long project development and producer skills advancement training programme, unveiled its 3rd edition selection. With the focus on the quality of projects, the most intense competition occurred in the field of series. The organizers received applications from 14 low production capacity countries, and the best represented format among the applicants was animated series (45%), followed by shorts (30%) and features (25%).

Aardman, the multi-award-winning independent animation studio, has announced that its training facility the Aardman Academy has launched a curriculum of teaching excellence in animation for up to 35 individuals looking for a career in the animation industry.

Part of BFI Film Academy, this stop-motion animation course is delivered in partnership with Aardman and UWE School of Animation. Participants will work in teams to devise, write and storyboard a short film. Working with industry practitioners, they will complete an animatic and make all the sets, armatures and models required to shoot and edit their short film.
