LONDON — Cinelab London (www.cinelab.london), the full-service film laboratory and digital dailies facility, has hired Darren Rae as head of color. Rae has spent more than 25 years collaborating with directors and cinematographers on numerous blockbusters, independent features and long-form series.

VFX supervisor Tommy Smith has joined creative studio Carbon. He has more than 15 years of experience working at studios such as Psyop, The Mill and Method. He also had a two-year stint with Apple as creative director across technology projects. Smith says he looks forward to his work at Carbon because it allows him to use his skills across both 2D and 3D. Stop-motion animation pioneer Phil Tippett (Star Wars original trilogy, Jurassic Park, RoboCop) is ready to unleash his “nightmare 30 years in the making” on audiences, when his experimental feature Mad God premieres at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland on Thursday, August 5. The Oscar-winning visual effects craftsman debuted the trailer Tuesday.
