It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

New Colorworks facility targets 4K productions

CULVER CITY, CA -- Sony Pictures Entertainment's (www.sonypictures.com) digital intermediate facility, Colorworks, has opened a new facility that will focus on 4K television post production. Located in the Capra Building on the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City, Colorworks 4K Television will provide post services for original programming shot in 4K and re-mastering services for film-originated media. It will deliver both HD masters for current distribution and 4K masters for future use.

Apple tells reseller, new Mac Pro is coming

Following the news that Apple is to discontinue its Mac Pro line in Europe due to new regulatory standards, Apple is reportedly prepping a new Mac Pro product for spring 2013. The news comes from Apple reseller France Systemes (via Mac4Ever & Macg.co), an Apple Authorized Reseller and Certified Education Center in France with 17 years in the business, which claimed in a recent newsletter to customers that Apple has confirmed the discontinuation of Mac Pros in the country would only be temporary.

Extron Electronics has upgraded their SME 100 encoder, enabling the support of additional network and streaming protocols. The SME 100 now supports push streaming in unicast or multicast applications applying native RTP or MPEG-2 Transport Streams. Session Announcement Protocol and Session Description Protocol are applied to manage push streaming sessions.

Grass Valley Live Production solutions were on hand in and around the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. The Super Bowl is the premiere showcase for mobile production companies hired to cover various events for their broadcast clients. This year, broadcasters will rely on NEP, F/F Productions, and Game Creek Video to provide coverage, and they in turn rely on Grass Valley.
