It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

It’s obvious once you know but a common mistake made by users of other DAWs when getting to know Pro Tools is to look for a dedicated sample editor as found in many other DAWs.

The Playlist features in Pro Tools are indispensable when tracking. The ability to collect alternative takes in the same track and comp a perfect take from the results is one of the reasons why virtually everyone who cut their teeth on tape wouldn’t go back.

We continue to hear complaints that Avid is no longer releasing useful new features in the Pro Tools updates. In this article, we are going to cover all the new features, changes, rebranding and bundled products for Pro Tools 2019 through to the release of Pro Tools 2018.10 and leave you to make your own mind up as to whether Avid is delivering enough new features or the right new features…

For many of us there often isn’t a clear distinction between mixing and arranging. If we are creatively involved in producing a track then it’s not at all unusual to be deciding not just how an element should fit into the track but whether it should be in the track at all. I need to say that I’m not suggesting that mixing isn’t creative, just that it isn’t the same as writing or producing - OK?

In this article we take a look at several third-party plug-ins which we feel make excellent examples of how relevant AudioSuite plug-ins still are for both processing and workflow applications. It can be easy to overlook AudioSuite in some types of audio production as AAX inserted plug-ins, which process in real-time, often do most of the heavy lifting for us in the mix, but that wasn't always the case, especially in Pro Tools pre-version 11 which first introduced a 64-bit architecture for proce...

Did you know that you will not be able to use AAX DSP Plugins with the new Dolby Audio Bridge Workflow via Core Audio when using the new in-the-box workflow with Pro Tools 2019.10 and the Dolby Atmos Production Suite?

Fast Forwarding and Rewinding isn’t as important as it used to be in the days of linear media (that’s tape to most of us) as in a DAW we can just click and play from anywhere on the timeline. That’s fine as long as we know where we need to be in our sessions but playing through tracks faster or slower than real-time while hearing the audio can be useful for all sorts of reasons. Shuttle lock is a really useful feature which allows you to do just this.

Successfully using Aggregate Devices in Pro Tools is at best a dark art and at worst a total car crash. In this free tutorial from Pro Tools Expert, Technical Editor James Ivey shows you to make the most of your 32 channel I/O count in a Pro Tools Native (non HD) system by using the Aggregate Devices feature of both Pro Tools and macOS.
