To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Evan, wracked with guilt, approached us to beg for the opportunity to lessen his burden by sharing his precomp oopsie with the world. Okay, it maybe didn't happen like that but listen anyway as Evan Pease talks about losing your mind in After Effects, making a simple mistake that costs you your sanity, and how...

The art of Motion Tracking

November 18, 2012, 04:32 PM

http://www.redsharknews.com/post/item/206-the-art-...

Convincing alignment between the apparent motion in the frame with the motion of an inserted, unreal visual effects element was simply beyond the sort of precision a human being can achieve, even given an animation stand and a stack of paper with punched registration holes, and even if it's OK for the job to take a week.

Mythology of Horror

November 18, 2012, 04:30 PM

Science Tells us How the world works but it's the stories we Tell to each other that allow us to make sense of that world - to comprehend, interpret and articulate our place within it. Understanding this notion allows us to recognise the power of Myth and the collective mythologies that form the foundations of narrative cultures and societies.

Here's another week of some of the latest news (in two parts) on After Effects tutorials, plug-ins, scripts, and related items of interest. It was busy again last week, with iExpressions (a new approach to leverage expressions), tutorials from Red Giant, workflow, cameras, and Avid moving things forward.

Adobe has lots of blogs but Kevin's is the best on

While recently clicking around and updating my RSS feeds in the good ‘ole Google Reader I happened upon this long, long list of Adobe blogs. Adobe is a big company so it’s no surprise they have a lot of people blogging about their various corners of the company but the size of that list is ridickerous.

In about two years time, I think, the overwhelming majority of 3D character animation content will not be made by professional 3D artists using professional, high end software like Maya.
