It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Posting to Facebook and Twitter – not to mention other social media sites – is a great way to promote yourself. Images are always better for engaging eyeballs, but it’s a lot of work to create something graphically powerful.

What many of us really wanted was a software that could edit as well as FCP X or Premiere Pro, but that also included finishing tools that you might find in After Effects or Resolve. We wanted a system that would truly reflect the digital age in which we worked, and would offer a truly innovative experience. I’m pleased to say that for many of us, that answer has finally come in the form of DaVinci Resolve 12.

Many directors have a regular crew of collaborators on their films. Editor Pietro Scalia first worked with director Ridley Scott on G.I. Jane in 1997 and won his second Oscar for the Scott-directed, Black Hawk Down. Because the production of The Martian came together more quickly than is usual for a high-profile project, when production started Scalia was editing The Sea of Trees for director Gus Van Sant, but he was able to join the team in Budapest about four weeks into the shoot. The po...

By Katie Staveley Accelerated file transfer software is not new. It’s been around for many years and has been used by the world’s largest media brands. For those teams of content producers, it has been a critical piece of their workflow architecture, but it wasn’t until recently that this kind of software has become more accessible to every size company, not just the largest. And just in time. It goes without saying that the process of producing and delivering content is ever-evolvin...
