To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

What a busy last few days it has been, since the release of Apple's FCPX editing application, keeping up with all the reviews and viral videos. With many "Legacy FCP" users feeling abandoned, the two major companies offering the alternative editing applications Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer have quickly weighed in on the change in the marketplace.

In Final Cut Pro X, you aren't limited to the minimums and maximums defined by the sliders. The maximum value for Roundness controlled by the slider is 50, but you can enter larger values in the numeric field...

Zen Approach to Final Cut X

It's been just over a week since FCPX came out. I feel like I've been asked nearly a hundred times "What do I think?" I'm reading a dozen forums (with the Cow first), watching pundits and gurus pontificate about how great the software is, how bad the software is, how stupid Apple is, funny videos on Youtube, Vimeo - even petitions to turn back time.

With the release of Final Cut Pro X, many were anticipating that there would be NATIVE FULL RED R3D integration in the new software. When that was not part of the release, especially after Apple talked about up to 4K resolution a the supermeet, it left many people wondering how to integrate RED footage into FCPX projects. The purpose of this tutorial is to help you figure out how you might be able to incorporate footage captured with RED cameras into a project you might be editing in FCPX.

Hysterical Rants Of Final Cut Pro Users

As the entire world knows by now, Apple recently released a major update to their professional video editing software, Final Cut Pro. The update was so radical in nature that Apple increased the software version number from 7 to 10, with the 10 denoted by the Roman X. Shortly after Final Cut Pro X was released, a vocal group of Final Cut Pro 7 users went bonkers with indignation. The offense that triggered their outrage? The new version did not include several popular features from the...

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The arguments, the recriminations, the breakups and reunions. After a long, stormy relationship, it looks like Apple is finally calling it quits with their professional customers.

I keep hearing from folks who are looking for the Add Edit tool in Adobe Premiere Pro. It's there, just under a different name. As you edit in the timeline, you may want to change the length of a shot.
