It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

When Adobe introduced CS4 they also introduced a new feature that many thought would be the suite’s first real killer feature: Speech Transcription. I think the fantasy might have been this: gone was the day of paying a human to transcribe footage as the machines could finally do it for us.

LaCie is giving video editors a little something to look forward to. At Computex 2011, which starts today in Taipei, Taiwan, the company is demonstrating a simple mobile workstation configuration that it says uses four of its Thunderbolt-enabled Little Big Disks to move data at speeds of up to 835 MB/sec. LaCie claims this is a new speed record for mobile storage. (It doesn't, however, max out the Thunderbolt interface, which is spec'd at 10 Gb/sec.)

Philip Hodgetts posted on his blog a new article on the Final Cut Pro X and this time he focuses his attention on the reason why Apple decided to base its new Final Cut Pro release on metadata. Better media and metadata management was one of the bullet points in one of the articles he wrote some time ago and Philip feels that better metadata management is a significant part of better media management, and crucially important for the future of automation in post production.

If you've been using Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Studio for any length of time then you're probably aware of FCS Maintenance Pack. It's an incredibly useful set of tools from Digital Rebellion that aims to help diagnose, troubleshoot and fix problems with Final Cut Studio and its related applications.

There are many options to change the speed of clips, including the rate stretch tool, time remapping to achieve a variable speed value, and using After Effects own remapping abilities to fine tune your results.
