It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

By Randi Altman Todd Haynes’ Carol, about two women who fall in love in New York City in the 1950s, received six Oscar noms this year, including one for Best Cinematography. Despite its setting, this beautifully captured film was actually shot in Cincinnati because of its architectural resemblance to 1950’s Manhattan. But the post was done in New York. One of the movie’s producers, Goldcrest Films, has a post house there, so Carol’s edit team called that location home for about sev...

A little over a year ago, the Irish-British-Canadian co-production Brooklyn was greeted at its Sundance Festival premiere by a standing ovation that set off a fierce bidding war for distribution rights won by Fox Searchlight. Released in late November 2015, the film has drawn Oscar nominations for Best Picture, for Nick Hornby’s screenplay of Colm Tóibín’s novel, and for Saoirse Ronan’s performance as a young woman who leaves her Irish home in the early 1950s for a new life in New York.

Just published by my friends over at Screenlight. My take on the evolution of the creative professional. As someone who first edited video in 1986, I have borne witness to a wholesale revolution and evolution of the creative industry. Well actually, just creativity as a whole. Those of us who have been around the film and video post-production biz for awhile will remember a day before all of the major NLEs had waveform audio syncing built-in. And if we remember that far back we most likely have fond memories of PluralEyes as it was the original audio-syncing tool that we came to know and love. As the years passed and the NLEs built this syncing capability internal to their toolset the need for PluralEyes waned. PE version 3 addressed this by making the app a stand...

As the editorial consultant on DEADPOOL, I spent 9 months crafting the post production workflow used for the edit and also trained the entire post production team in both Premiere Pro and After Effects. Very early into the cutting, lead editor Julian Clarke asked me if we could add camera shake to certain locked-off, static shots.
